Tips to Keep in Mind When Travelling With a Pet

Have you been thinking of taking that much needed vacation? What about your furry friend who will get left behind? Is the idea of leaving them home heart breaking for you? Well, if you arewilling to take certain measures, there is no need why you would have to leave them home alone, or with a stranger caretaker. The following tips will ensure that no matter how you plan to travel, whether through airplane, car or train, you can take your loving pet along with you. Here is what you will need to do. First Things First: Accommodations - The very first thing that you will need to ensure is that the place you stay at has living arrangements for your pet as well. This is important to ask in advance because most hotels and living resorts do not allow the entrance of pet. It would become really difficult for you to make arrangements at the last minute, therefore make sure you know in advance. The easiest way to find out is to check the official website of the hotel you plan to stay at. If the information is not available, simply call their number and ask if you can bring your poet along. If the answer is no, start looking for other places. Search the internet and no matter where you plan to vacation, you are bound to find some place that caters to the need of your canine or feline friends. Packing Needs for Your Pet - This is another thing that you will need to do in advance. Make sure that the cage, kennel or traveling case of your pet is in excellent condition. If the harness is broken or if the thing is not comfortable, either get a new one, or get the old one fixed. This way, you will not have to face the glares of strangers and uncomfortable sounds of your pet throughout the journey. One more thing that you will need to keep in mind is that pets can become disturbed during travel. The easiest way to make sure that they stay comfortable and calm is by providing them with something familiar. If your pet has a favorite toy, blanket or stuffed animal, you can put it in their traveling case so that they are soothed by the familiar object. If you are traveling in a plane or train, provide them with enough food and water for the journey, along with comfortable bedding. You don’t want them to catch the cold by sitting on the cold floor for too long. ID Your Beloved Pet Do you want to get your pet mixed with someone else? Of course not! This the reason why you need to make sure that your darling pet has some id on them at all times. Create a name tag and tie it in their necks. Also tag an id card on the carrier that your pet will travel in. Write your name and contact details so that whoever finds your pet, can return them with ease. When you are traveling, you pet might run away or get lost in the crowd by breaking their leash. It is best to keep their recent photo with you at all times, so that you can show it around and ask the local people, as well as the authorities for help. Carry Pet Food and Medicine with You Do you really want to get in the hassle of trying to buy food for your pet while you are on vacation? If you are going someplace familiar and know the local shops, then it’s fine. Otherwise, take your pet’s food along. This is especially important if your beloved pet friend is used to consuming the food of a particular brand. Also pack some treats for your furry family that you can bestow on excellent behavior during the vacation. Medicines are another thing that you will need to keep in your bags. Meet your pets vet at least a week before you travel and ask them about the type of medicines you may need. If your pet needs certain shots, then ensure they get them, otherwise you may end up having a serious medical situation on hand. The vet can also advice you on some tips that will ensure a healthy trip for your pet. Keep Extras of Everything Just like children, you never know when you might need more than one thing on the trip. This is the reason why you need to ensure that you have two’s of everything that you take for your pets. This includes everything from leashes to harness, toys to ID callers, toys to medication and food. One idea is to keep these things in two separate bags, so that if you lose one bag, you have access to the other. Feed in Advance You do not want to handle poop when you are traveling in a train, do you? This is the reason why it is recommended that you feed your pet at least 4 hours before you start the journey. Traveling on a full stomach is also not very comfortable for the pet. This way they will have pooped and will be more at ease. Make sure you also provide the flight attendant with instructions about your pet’s food and water, so they know what needs to be done. Ask the Vet about Sedatives If you think that it would be more comfortable for your pet to be asleep while they are traveling by giving them sedatives, you need to ask the vet first. Most times it is advised that you don’t give any sleeping shots to your furry friends. Of course this situation would vary depending on the time of the flight. Make sure you talk to the vet in advance so that you don’t face any difficulty later on. So long as you follow these tips, you will not have a very difficult time traveling with your beloved pet. Just stay relaxed and have a good time!
