Bali has a special magic that cannot be explained in words, it has to be experienced. It might have something to do with the friendliness of the people or the beautiful countryside, or the quiet spirituality that pervades this region, nobody knows, but magical it is. Here at HolidayBirds we have experienced the magic and have several all inclusive Bali tour packages that will allow you to do the same.
What to Expect in Bali
Bali is a mixture of old and new, large areas of rice terraces, long expanses of beaches and pounding surf, misty mountains and volcanoes, beautiful and enchanting temple ceremonies and dance performances that mesmerize one for what seems like hours.
The Balinese people are the friendliest in all of Indonesia, from the wise old men sitting on the side of the road to the very respectful and curious youth. The people of Bali are relaxed and very spiritual, and as such take life at a very slow pace. Quite frankly, it is this friendliness that has been instrumental in creating the tourism industry that is far superior in Bali than anywhere else in Indonesia.
The Balinese culture is one that is rich in devotion and traditional values, and is itself a major tourist attraction. Balinese people live their lives strictly according to their religion and the rich cultural heritage in evident in the close to 20,000 temples and palaces on the island.
Gods and spirits are very real and important to the Bali people, most of whom follow the Shaivite Hindu faith. They believe that ghosts and spirits walk the streets and leave offerings of incense and rice are left for these spirits every day. This may have something to do with the magic that can be felt everywhere, especially in the vicinity of Gunung Agung, Bali’s holy mountain and one of the chakra points of the world.
Dancing, music, and the arts are all a big part of the culture in Bali and there are hundreds of festivals held throughout the year. Make sure that you take one of the Bali packages that includes some of the festivals.
Traditional Balinese fare virtually always consists of rice accompanied by chicken, duck, beef, pork or goat, seafood of all kinds, and plenty of vegetables. Food is boiled, steamed, stir fried or deep-fried, roasted or grilled and is given its unique flavor by liberal use of basil, cardamom, chilies, coconut, garlic, ginger, lemon grass, lime, nutmeg, peanuts, pepper, saffron, shallots, soy sauce, tamarind, turmeric and several kinds of shrimp paste, as befits the “spice islands.” Some of the traditional dishes that should be tried are Babi Guling, crispy skin and pieces of grilled suckling pig; Bebek Betutu, delicious duck slowly baked in banana leaves with various fragrant herbs and spices.
